The Devils Tool

The Devil’s Tool Sale

It was advertised that the devil was going to put his tools up for sale. On the date of the sale, the tools were placed for public inspection; each tool being marked with its sale price.
They were a treacherous lot of implements …

Hatred, Envy, Jealousy, Deceit, Lying, Pride,
And so on….

Laid apart from the rest was a harmless looking tool, it was well worn and priced very high. “What is the name of this tool?” asked one of the shoppers, pointing to it.

“That is Discouragement replied the devil.

“Why have you priced it so high?”

“Because it is more useful to me than the others? I can pry open and get inside a man’s heart with that, when I cannot get near him with my other tools. Once I get inside, I can make him do what I choose. It is badly worn because I use it on almost everyone, since very few people know that it belongs to me.”

We are always out looking for a bargain, shopping all the sales that come along. Enticed into buying little needed or not needed items, because of the lower price. One point we should always remember.

Just because we can buy it. Does not mean we should buy it.
The Lord tells us not to be discouraged:

He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power.

Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the Lord. Will gain new strength;

They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

A Rainstrom is coming

“Then Elijah said to Ahab, ‘Go get something to eat and drink, for I hear a mighty rainstorm coming!’ ” – 1 Kings 18:41

In First Kings 18, the Samaritans had been in a great famine. For three and a half years, there had been no rain. The prophet Elijah showed up and said to King Ahab, “I hear the sound of the abundance of rain.” When he said that, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, yet he chose to believe what he heard in his spirit in spite of what he saw in the natural. With his eyes, he saw drought, famine and barrenness; but inside, he heard the sound of the abundance of rain.

Friend, this is what faith is all about. You’ve got to believe what you hear in your heart even when you see just the opposite. God is saying, “There’s about to be an abundance of favor in your life. The drought is coming to an end. You’re going to see healing, restoration, new opportunities, new growth.”

Soon after, that rainstorm came. And just like Elijah, you have to believe that your rainstorm of blessing is right around the corner. No matter what anyone says, no matter what happens, keep believing and keep declaring because soon you will hear the sound of rain!

The End of your Drought

“You, O God, sent a plentiful rain…” – Psalms 28:9

Every person goes through times of drought, or dry seasons, when we don’t see the changes we hoped for. We’ve got big dreams, we’re standing on God’s promises, but things stay the same. It’s dry and barren. Maybe you are blessed in one area and in a drought in another. It’s easy to think, “This is the way it’s always going to be. I’ll always have this struggle.” No, in 2014 that drought is coming to an end. Any area of brokenness, dryness, loneliness, every empty place, if you will stay in faith, God is going to rain down favour, healing, and restoration.

We declare that this year, you are going to see an abundance of rain! Every drought is only temporary. That dry season is not going to last forever. Struggle and lack is not your destiny. It’s temporary. Rain is headed your way! Declare it by faith, “Father, thank You that the drought is ending and the rain is coming; and in 2014, I will see an abundance of Your goodness in my life!”

Legend of the dogwood Tree

Two thousand years ago, few trees in the Middle East were big enough to construct anything. However, one tree was valued above the others for its thick trunk and fine, strong wood.

When the Romans came to rule over Jerusalem, their government used this same timber to build the crosses for executing criminals. A group of workers were assigned to gather wood for the crosses. Before long, every Roman official knew the best wood came from these gatherers of execution wood, so those workers became popular.

One day, the wood gatherers received a special request. An officer of the Roman court came and said, “The King of Jews is to be put to death. Deliver an extra-large cross made from your finest wood.” So, a fresh tree was cut from the forest of the trees with thick trunks and fine, strong wood. An extra-tall (and extra-heavy) cross was quickly made and delivered.

Three days after the death of Jesus of Nazereth, the chief wood gatherer got alarming news. “All of our finest trees are withering!” the messenger whispered. The wood gatherer hurried to the forest and saw that it was true.

Several years later, the chief wood gatherer heard that, every spring, many people visited the old forest that had once made his job so easy. Despite his advancing years, he set out to discover why. He saw the remains of forest, now like a salty bottoms, with only a few trees still standing tall, bare, lifeless and rotting.

But what was this? As he drew closer, his feeble eyes could make out the people walking among thousands of beautiful, flowering bushes. Seeing one of his own workers there, the old man said, “No one could ever make a cross out of this twisted wood. Our finest tree has gone to the dogs!” He noticed the beautiful white flowers, each blossom looking as if it had been burned from the touch of a miniature cross.

As told to Ben Baston by his grandmother, Louise Brown.
There Is a Legend

At the time of Crucifixion the dogwood had been the size of the oak and other forest trees. So firm and strong was the tree that it was chosen as the timber for the cross. To be used thus for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the tree, and Jesus nailed upon it, sensed this. In His gentle pity for all sorrow and suffering Jesus said to the tree:
“Because of your regret and pity for My suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. Henceforth it shall be slender and bent and twisted and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross–two long and two short petals. And in the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints, brown with rust and stained with red, and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns, and all who see it will remember.”

The pink dogwood is said to be blushing for shame because of the cruel purpose which it served in the Crucifixion. The weeping dogwood further symbolized the sorrow. The red dogwood, called the Cherokee, bears the color to remind us of the blood shed by our Savior.

Protecting Father

If it is true that trouble comes in waves, then I have been buried by a typhoon lately.
Every move I make lands me in another hole. Every turn I take runs me into another wall.
Every decision I come up with turns out to be wrong. What a night mare I have been living!

I have turned to others for help and advice, they left me feeling more desperate than before. I looked for answers in books, magazines, on radio and TV. Everywhere I turned led me to a dead end.

Then I Turned To You. What refreshment You brought me.
Confidence replaced my concern. Hope appeared in my heart from nowhere.
I don’t know why I didn’t run to You in the first place. You have always offered help in my troubles. Thank You for carrying me on Your shoulders through the storm, and shielding me from the wind and the rains,

The LORD Answers;

Consider me a safe place where you can hide, and I will protect you from trouble and surround you with my songs of deliverance.
I am your shepherd who will not leave you in need.I will help you lie down in flourishing fields;
I will show you quiet waters and refresh your soul. I have told you these things so that you can find peace in Me. In this world you will have trouble, but here is my promise to you;

I have overcome the world! I have given My angels charge over you. In their hands they shall lift you up.
